| New Yoga Hall | 2004 Workshops | Victor's Tea | Book | Poems |

October 2004 - Since this Summer more progress has been made on the new Yoga Hall under construction in Eftalou, outside Molivos on the Greek island of Lesvos. The stucco finish is being added to the outside and the interior rooms are making progress. While teaching this summer's workshops in Molivos, Angela and Victor had their first opportunity to walk inside their new yoga hall, still  For comparison, you can look the pictures from last month and the previous pictures of the final excavation showing the ancient walls and where the coins and pottery shards were found.
The yoga hall sits in a rich and fertile valley, surrounded by olive trees and spectacular views of the mountains, the sea and turkey.

Notes from the 2004 workshops...

Our Mexican workshops filled and were very happy experiences. We were both touched and intrigued by the fact that so many couples attended. Is this to be our new direction?

In England we met old friends and new. The teaching halls were in historic villages, nestled into the beautiful Hampshire countryside surrounded by rolling hills and valleys and centuries old buildings and churches. The weather was good and we sat on the grass for lunch breaks. We’ll be there again for 2005!

In Greece, after visiting our new yoga place in Eftalou, we thought it would be hard to go back into town and teach. But all courses went well and we enjoyed the serene and warm atmosphere of the old hall for the last time, and just smiled at the motor bikes and noisy voices outside!

We handed over our Molivos Hall and our little living space at the back to Jytte Norsk who will bring out her own yoga group from Denmark, as well as sharing it with other teachers.

We are excited about the Eftalou building and look forward to welcoming you there next year in May and June. It has an airy and happy atmosphere with a sense of spaciousness and light. There are beautiful views into the olive grove, as well as out to the mountains and the sea, with the coast of Turkey in the distance. Perhaps the Goddess Athena, with her sacred “owl of wisdom”, has blessed the buildings. Detlef showed us our owls nest in the future changing room and we were able to peep in on two baby owls – white and fluffy and quite aggressive, hissing at us whenever we visited!

Victor’s course in Brittany, France was a great success and was held in a beautiful old building near the sea. Angela’s workshops for women at Kripalu were wonderfully feminine and fun.

We have had a full and satisfying year, but were glad to take a break in August and enjoy the beauty of Vancouver Island before starting our U.S. tour in September.

We would like to thank all the wonderful teachers in North America, Canada and Europe who arrange our workshops, and especially our dear friend and organizer Patricia Schneider for her devotion, tireless work and support.

With love and warm wishes to you all –

Dear Friends...
As you know, the 2003 lottery for a free Course in Greece was a tremendous success. We raised $5700 for the new Yoga Hall in Eftalou.
Angela and Victor are still in need of building funds and we would like to let friends know that we have re-opened the for a free Course in Greece. We are receiving names and $100 donations for each lottery entry.
There will be100 entries and when we get to the 100th name, we will have a drawing to decide the winner!  Below is a photo of Shannon Mc Cord, the lucky winner of the 2003 lottery.
Lottery entries may be made payable to Patricia Schneider and sent to 1350 President St., Yellow Springs Ohio 45387 USA.
Blessings...Patricia

The 2005 Workshops
We are halfway thourgh the 2004 workshop schedule, and the 2005 Workshop Schedule has been posted. Angela and Victor are back from Greece and resting up before more teaching starting in September.

For the full schedule of the rest of the 2004 Workshops and all of the 2005 Workshops, see the Workshops page.

Victor's Third Yoga Notebook
As the Yoga Hall is underway, more good news is coming on Victor's third Yoga notebook. Ganesha Press, has told us that the book is now back from the printer and ON SALE now. Here is the review from Yoga Journal:
"... an idiosyncratic, uncompromising excursion... Van Kooten's own drawings illustrate dynamic principals in our bodies, our psyches, and the universe. His gift for illustration and penchant for poetic language is evident on every page." -Yoga Journal
And, Ellen Toomey of Ganesha Press tells us that Victor's book is a Finalist in the
Independent Publisher Book Awards 2004. See more information about all three of the books in Victor's Yoga Notebook Trilogy

Yoga Poetry
New poems have been added, one from the Women of Wisdom Workshop, and several from Janet Hockfeld. These are added to an earlier poem Angela has sent from the Harbin workshop. A tall guy with wild hair and an infectious smile handed me two pieces of paper at the Chapel Hill 2003 workshop. And then there is the Ohio Poem from Yellow Springs several years back. Take a look...

Victor's Tea
At the Chapel Hill workshop last year, as he has done often in his travels, Victor brewed up his tea for the participants. Several people asked for the recipe. Here it is.

Background on the Yoga Hall:
Angela and Victor have purchased just over an acre of land on the island of Lesvos, Greece and have started construction on a yoga hall. You can look the pictures from last month and the previous pictures of the final excavation showing the ancient walls and where the coins and pottery shards were found. Victor has been sending original water colors in appreciation to the support people are giving in this project.

The Yoga Hall on Lesvos will be a place where many future yogis will be able to go to explore and expand their practice, as well as a home base for Angela and Victor.

Donations, pre-purchases of the Molivos Workshop on Lesvos, selections from Victor's Gallery 1 or Gallery 2, or just contributions from your overflow would be welcome.
