January
2008

The workshop was held in the beautiful Mary Winspear Hall of
Sidney by the Sea and despite the grey sky and showers, the
atmosphere was warm and enthusiastic.
There
were fifty participants form as far away as Texas and Oregon
in the States, to local teachers and students from Victoria and
the Gulf Islands of BC.

The
eldest was eighty and the youngest in her early twenties, but
age and experience made no problem as the classes allowed each
person to go at their own degree of comfort

and
yet explore their edges and find new, further and more exciting
possibilities ... unwinding, opening up and releasing old holding
patterns and stuck energy.

We
worked a lot with visualisation to feel the grounding effect
of 'Rooting', the expansion of 'Wings' and 'Inner Body' freedom
of the 'Snail' and 'Shellfish'!

We
explored Alternate Nostril breathing [without the use of fingers
and thumbs closing one nostril] in order to discover the amazing
capacity and sensitivity of the nasal membranes and the ability
to direct the breath through one nostril at a time.

We
chanted, we laughed and cried if and when it happened naturally
and most of all we felt at home with ourselves and in our bodies.

Next year we shall be in Greece, but perhaps in 2009 or January
2010, we shall meet here again.
Greetings and love

The
Yoga Hall in Eftalou On Lesvos, Greece
We
want to share some of the photos, especially of Eftalou where
we will be spending even more of our time in 2008. Perhaps
you can join us there? (More pictures here)

This is the town of Molivos on the island of Lesvos, about 4 kilometers
from the Yoga Hall at Eftalou.

Angela's DVDs
Angela's beautiful and inspirational "The
Feminine Unfolding" is now available in DVD. It is beautiful,
inspirational, spiritual, and deeply insightful. If you have not
seen it yet, do yourself a kindness.
Angela's second DVD is now available.
The title is "Inner Body Flow". It is
a is an introduction to the vibrant concepts
of "Inner Body Yoga". It allows the student to participate
at their own level as Angela instructs a class. Victor's beautiful
and illustrative watercolours are included to give extra illustration
of the poses.
Victor's
Fourth Yoga Notebook and Galleries
As
the Yoga Hall is underway, more good news is coming on Victor's
fourth Yoga notebook. Ganesha Press, has told us that the
book is ON SALE now.
Here is the review of Victor's third book from Yoga Journal:
"...
an idiosyncratic, uncompromising excursion. Van Kooten's own drawings
illustrate dynamic principals in our bodies, our psyches, and the
universe. His gift for illustration and penchant for poetic language
is evident on every page." -Yoga Journal
And, Ellen Toomey of Ganesha Press tells
us that the First Notebook, currently out of print, is being reprinted
and will be available again in March 2008. The Second and Third and
now the fourth "From
the Inside Out" Books are available now.
For more information about the books see
Victor's Yoga Notebooks
Also,
Victor has completed a new series of watercolours for his Thank-you
Gallery. Victor's Galleries have been re-organized into a Ganesha
Gallery, and Gallery One and Gallery
Two.
Yoga
Poetry
New poems from Angela and Robbie Lapp have
been added from Harbin and Feathered Pipe, one from the
Women of Wisdom Workshop, and
several from Janet Hockfeld. These are added to an earlier poem
Angela has sent from the Harbin workshop. This all started when
a tall guy with wild hair and an infectious smile handed me two
pieces of paper at the Chapel Hill 2003 workshop. And then there
is the Ohio Poem from Yellow Springs several years back. Take
a look...
Victor's
Tea
At the Chapel Hill workshop last year, as he has done often in his
travels, Victor brewed up his tea for the participants. Several
people asked for the recipe. Here
it is.
Background
on the Yoga Hall:
Angela
and Victor purchased just over an acre of land on the island
of Lesvos, Greece and have built a
yoga hall. You can look the pictures
from 2004 and the previous pictures
of the final excavation showing the ancient walls and where
the coins and pottery shards were found. Victor has been sending
original water colors in appreciation
to the support people are giving in this project.
The
Yoga Hall on Lesvos is place where many yogis will be
able to go to explore and expand their practice, as well as a
home base for Angela and Victor.
